Between Past
and Future

Picking one day out of your entire life to live over can be a daunting task. What day do you choose? There seem to be two almost opposite approaches to this selection process. Some look at the question and immediately feel regret- looking back on certain days they have always wished they did differently. Maybe a bad decision, maybe a missed opportunity, and the aspirations of changing that horrible day into a good one.

On the other hand, some approach the question excited at the possibility of reliving one of their finest and most enjoyable moments. Maybe a celebration of accomplishment, time with a now deceased loved one, or a moment simply remembered by pure joy.

Then of course, there are those of us who approach this question, and life, with no regrets. These people wouldn’t choose a day because they feel that every day has its place and every day served its purpose.

This big question can give us insight not only into the question itself, but also in how we approach life and time in general. Am I constantly consumed by regret? Or am I so wrapped up in past experiences that I can’t move onto the future? Do I even want to be someone with no regrets?
All of these questions and how we see ourselves in them depend on our relationship with forgiveness and acceptance. When is it time to accept that a day went wrong, and when is it time to forgive ourselves for making a certain mistake? In order to move onto the future, do we really need to let go? Each day that goes by, even the bumpy ones, shape our lives into what they have become.

  3. Rachel: I’ve honestly been pondering this for a very long time now, staring at the computer screen and realizing that it’s near impossible to just pick one day. I’ve been fortunate enough to have many incredible days, and I think that ... Read more
